:: Inclusive Education For Disabled ::.
The education and training of individuals with disabilities has undergone many changes. A person, who is severely impaired, never knows her/his own hidden sources of strength until she is not treated like a human being and encouraged to shape her/his own life.
Integrated Education for Disabled (IED) is the education of disabled children in the regular classrooms. It refers to the opportunity for children with special needs to participate fully in all the educational activities that typify every society.
To provide least restrictive environment to disabled children so that they may grow and develop like other children.
To integrate the children with mild to severe disabilities to formal Govt. schools.
Parent / Sibling Conselling
To support manpower development activities and train required personal such as normal school teachers, DIET lecturers and itinerant teachers.
To setup resource centres.
To provide an equal opportunity to the disabled children and prepare them for life like other members of the society.
To mainstream the disabled children to achieve principle of normalization.
Target Age Group -- 6 -14 years
1. Identification of children with special needs: Identification of Children with special needs (CWSN) from 0-14 age group done every year through House Hold Survey
in all 70 district.

4. Providing assistive devices to CWSN:
5. Teacher's Training on IED: 5 days long orientation training on IED have been given to provide academic support to CWSN in their class.
6. 45 Days Resource Teachers training: 45 days long training given to DIET lecturers teachers to serve as a resource persons to provide academic support to all primary & upper primary schools of their respective blocks/cluster.
Development of Instructional Materials: 6 Folders and one teacher's handbook, 'Creative Equal Chances', 'Towards Inclusion' and 'Abhilasha' have been prepared and printed for providing concrete experience on disability and guidance to the parents and teachers for skill and concept training.
Parents Counseling : For the better knowledge and awareness of disabilities, how to teach and help CWSN 15 - 20 active parents of CWSN have been helped. IEP of CWSN have been prepared. According to IEP, following steps discussed in counselling:
Current status of CWSN, Maintenance and care of aids / appliances , Teaching techniques, orientation mobility and speach therapy . 76 parental groups formed and organised 302 meetings , Number of beneficeries parents are 3021.
Coordination with Special Olympics-UP : For the purpose of physical and mental development of mentally retrded children, coordinate with spcial olympics, Uttar Pradesh.
Residential Bridge Course:
Goal of Universalisation of Elementary Education can not be achieved without including CWSN under the ambit of elementary education.

A very few number of government special schools exist in UPIn the above back ground initiative was taken to start 03 months Residential bridge course for severely visually and hearing impaired children.
Bridge course were started in Gorakhpur & Basti for severe VI & HI children respectively as pilot project in year 2004-05. Due to excellent success, it was decided to expand bridge course for severe VI & HI children to other districts also.
Objectives, Policy & curriculum of the Bridge Course are as follow -
To develop skills of readiness for successful integration in regular schools
To develop adequate 3R concept as well as academic skills required for immediate inclusion in regular classroom
To develop sense of independence, self confidence & motivation
To orient the children with various environments not only for school inclusion, but also community & society inclusion
Organized at district level by DPO
Only children with severely visual and hearing impairment enrolled
"Out of school" children were given preference
Residential facility & necessary resources made available
Regular monitoring & evaluation
Placement of children in regular schools after completion of bridge course

Academic achievement of the children were remarkable 47 children were enrolled in class Vth. Till now 911 CWSN have been main streamed in regular schools.
Itinerant teachers have been selected in the district and they will provide regular support to CWSN of bridge courses, so that CWSN of bridge course may complete their elementary education.
The Journey was from dark to light, black to colors and all new experience on getting the sight back. Jagat Narain was found to have refractive errors, he was provided corrective lenses in convergence with the District Blind Control Society, Gorakhpur. After two consecutive surgical interventions involving transplantation of lenses in King George Medical College, Lucknow, Shailesh got his eye sight back. Following are the children who were identified for surgery. Some of them got their eye sight back and some are waiting for.

Itinerant Teachers: These teachers responsible for the selected 8 - 10 schools in one block. Selection crieteria of schools on the basis of the number of children of that disability. Teacher deployment at block level. Itinerant teachers completed their two days orientation training at state level.
Resource Teacher: Resource teachers are responsible for support services, trainings identification & integration and continuous evaluation of CWSN.
